fishtail
When the rear end of a car swings from side to side, often as it comes out of a turn.

flat spot
If a tire stops spinning and drags along the pavement, it can rub off an excess amount of rubber in that spot and cause a flat spot. This can happen from locking the brakes or from sliding sideways with one or more wheels not turning, and usually causes a severe vibration in the car at speed.

formula one racing
Cars in Formula One racing are built from the ground up based on a set of specifications or formula set by the FIA. Cars are single-seater, monocoque construction that makes extensive use of aerodynamics to create downforce. Downforce pushes the car into the road, making it easier to go faster through turns. The engine in a Formula One car is in the rear. Formula One cars race in Grand Prix races, which are held on road courses, not oval tracks.

The Grand Prix series consists of about 15 races in several countries, and are about 150-200 miles (240-320 kilometers) long.

fuel cell
A holding tank for a race car’s supply of gasoline. Consists of a metal box that contains a flexible, tear-resistant bladder and foam baffling. A product of aerospace technology, it’s designed to eliminate or minimize fuel spillage.
