A type of start in which the drivers, at the starting signal, run to their cars, start their engines, and begin racing.

lift
To partially or completely release the throttle pedal, reducing engine RPM and speed. May also be referred to as breathing the throttle.

line
The route taken by a driver, especially through a turn; as in “He took a very high line to avoid being passed.” Also known as the groove.


loose
The rear of the car is unstable due to a lack of rear-tire grip caused by too much front downforce, or not enough rear downforce. Also known as oversteer.
