Glossary

  1. Car enters pit box and stops.
  2. Fuel must be added first, the engine must be shut off and no work can be done on the car until fueling is complete. Fueler plugs into one side of race car and fuel vent crew person is on the other side (except in classes where fueling and venting is done by one person) along with the air jack (mechanic #2) being plugged into race car.
  3. After the air jack is plugged in, the tire passer hands tires over the wall.
  4. Outside tire changer removes lug nut of front tire, then moves to the rear. The tire changer has a helper remove the front tire and replace it with a new one while he changes the back tire. Then, the helper comes back and takes the rear tire over the wall while the tire changer with the air wrench tightens the front tire, then goes back over the wall.
  5. The driver change takes place during fueling and tire changes. The drivers (or a designated crew member) help each other in and out of the cockpit.
  6. During a race, one (1) person is permitted over the pit wall just prior to a scheduled pit stop (car controller) to signal and stop the car in the pits. The car controller may talk to the driver or crew members, but is not allowed to perform any other function. All other team members and all equipment must remain behind the wall until the car has come to a stop in its designated pit.
  7. After the car has come to stop, a total of five (5) team members are permitted over the pit wall to service the race car. Individuals not counted in this total include 1) driver seated in car; 2) driver entering or leaving the car; 3) industry representatives who are examining the car's equipment, tires or other components and 4) team member who is manning a fire extinguisher. All other team members over the wall will be considered 'working on the car' as will the driver if he/she performs any work on the car.
